Guernsey gym wants to swap tennis courts for apartments

Two tennis courts will be replaced with 13 apartments if plans by a Guernsey leisure centre are approved by the planning department.

Kings Club want to build the homes to help fund the redevelopment of the St Peter Port gym.

An open planning meeting will be held on Tuesday to decide on the plans.

Almost 70 objections were received including concerns about the loss of all-weather tennis courts and increased traffic congestion.

Letters in support highlighted the increase in jobs, the need for new housing and revenue for the club.

Those who have already expressed an interest will be able to speak at the meeting on Tuesday at 09:15 BST at the Institute of Health meeting room in the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

The club hope to raise half of the £10m redevelopment costs from the sale of the apartments.
