Guernsey has been confirmed as the host for the 2021 Island Games.

The decision was announced after the States approved spending £750,000 to fund the games last month.

It means football, golf and cycling will return to the competition after being left off the list for the Gibraltar games in 2019.

Guernsey will be the only island to have held the biennial event three times, having already hosted in 1987 and 2003.

Up to 27 islands have participated in the Island Games since they were founded in 1985 and the event has expanded in recent years.

In 2013 Bermuda became the first island outside of Europe to host the games and over 2,700 athletes from 24 islands competed at last summer's games in Jersey.
