The future of the kerbside collection on the Isle of Man remains uncertain as the government hands over responsibility for the scheme.

The project, which began in 2008, serves about half of the island's homes in Braddan, Douglas and Onchan.

Douglas Council will be in charge of the collections from October 2011.

In the House of Keys on 8 February, MHK Graham Cregeen said: "The cost of the scheme is currently being evaluated by Douglas Council."

He added: "The final decision lies with them as they will eventually be paying for it. We are discussing the future of recycling with all of the island's local authorities."
