Minimum wage increase considered by Tynwald

Tynwald is to consider increasing the minimum wage in the Isle of Man for the first time since April 2010.

The changes, if approved, would mean an increase from £6.10 an hour to £6.20, to come into effect on 1 November.

The recommendation, which was put forward by the Department of Economic Development, will go to Tynwald in October.

Minister Allan Bell said: "This is another step forward for low-paid workers in the Isle of Man."

He added: "Even in difficult economic times we will continue to promote the welfare of those on the lower incomes."
