Course tackles Isle of Man youth unemployment

A government training scheme designed to reduce youth unemployment in the Isle of Man has begun in Ramsey.

It was announced in 2011 after official figures revealed almost half of the island's unemployed were between 16 and 24 years old.

The programme consists of a four-week course and a six-week work placement.

Economic development minister John Shimmin said its aim was to prevent youngsters getting into the habit of being out of work.
