Island residents invited to comment on social care

Isle of Man residents are being given the chance to have their say on the future of the island's welfare system.

The government plans to make major changes in the wake of reduced funding and increasing demand for services.

Some of the issues being looked at include means testing for child benefit and prescription charges and tighter controls on public housing allocation.

The public survey can be completed online and further information is available from social care.

The government predicts the number of over 65s to rise by 93%, from 15,000 to 29,000, over the next 30 years and says savings must be made to balance the books.
