Isle of Man police cell block cash bid

The Isle of Man parliament will be asked in July for £2.8m to fund a new 20-cell custody block at Police Headquarters in Douglas.

Home Affairs plans to to replace the existing 40-year-old facility currently located at Lord Street station.

Lord Street is one of three police stations to close in the next year due to cuts within the constabulary budget.

A spokesman said if funding is approved, building work on the new block will be completed by March 2015.

Home Affairs Minister, Juan Watterson said: "The development will be designed and constructed to the latest specifications for police custody units and provide enhanced facilities for healthcare and legal advisers."
