Severe gale-force winds forecast for the Irish Sea have forced the cancellation of ferry sailings between the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom.

Wednesday's scheduled 19:45 GMT service to Heysham and Thursday's 02:15 return sailing have been cancelled.

The Steam Packet Company said all remaining sailings on Thursday were subject to disruption.

A spokesman for the Isle of Man Met Office said westerly winds could reach severe gale-force nine at times.

All passengers have been advised to contact the Steam Packet Company.
