The Catholic community is Jersey has raised just under half a million pounds as part of a Portsmouth Diocese appeal.
The Bishop of Portsmouth wants £9m for building and refurbishment projects and training, and so the island's Catholics were tasked with raising £485,000.
Locally the money will be used for the Welcome Centre at St Thomas's Church and to refurbish the Oasis of Peace - a home of spiritual thought and prayer.
Parishioners have pledged to donate the money over the next five years.
The Catholic Dean of Jersey, Monsignor Nicholas France, said he had been amazed by the generous response of islanders.
He added that now that the target had been reached, the community was aiming to raise a further £100,000.
