Jersey farmers call for agricultural land protection

Farmers in Jersey are calling for more controls to ensure land is not lost to building developments or used for non-agricultural purposes.

The Jersey Farmers' Union said there was a demand for farmland and farming would suffer if any land was lost.

Planning minister Freddie Cohen said any development proposals were taken on individual merits.

He said any proposals in the country were weighed against the benefits to the community.
