New Year Honours for Jersey's first chief minister

Jersey's first chief minister, Frank Walker, has been appointed OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list.

The former politician served 18 years in the island's government and has been given the honour for public service.

Mr Walker became chief minister in 2005 when ministerial government was first introduced and left the States in 2008.

He will be appointed Order of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace next year and said he was very pleased to have been honoured by the Queen.
