The president of the National Union of Teachers in Jersey has said managers should limit the amount of work teachers are doing.

Anne Southern said many teachers in the island do overtime with some working 50 hour weeks.

She said there was no set pattern to a teacher's working week.

Mrs Southern said: "Teachers are entitled to a full 30 minute lunch break but it is actually hard to persuade teachers to take that time."

She said: "They often run lunchtime clubs for students, it is pretty full on."
