The Jersey Meteorological Department has confirmed that Wednesday 6 April is the warmest since records began.

The department originally said temperatures were forecast to rise to at least 19C (66F) but they actually peaked at 22.8C (72F).

Weather forecaster Sharon Merren said that temperatures above 20C would make it the hottest 6 April on record and the warmest day of the year so far.

The previously highest temperature on 6 April was 19.0C (66F) in 1894.
