Islanders are set to join in celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the Jersey Flag later.

In a special ceremony Bailiff, Michael Birt, will hoist the Jersey flag at the signal station at Fort Regent at 1300 BST.

The public are invited to assemble outside the ramparts at the north-eastern end of Fort Regent and States members will also be attending.

The flag was first hoisted on 7 April 1981 having been approved by the Queen.

The red cross on a white background was first announced in the States by the then Bailiff Sir Frank Ereaut.

The Bailiff has also asked all islanders with their own flags to hoist them between dawn and dusk, to celebrate the anniversary.
