A horse which became trapped in a metal gate after a failed attempt to jump it had to be freed by firefighters.

Autumn Shadow cleared the gate, in St Ouen, Jersey, with her front legs but her hind legs went under the top bar and became wedged.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to free the horse just after 11:00 GMT on Thursday.

The horse, slightly stressed but otherwise unharmed, has been reunited with her owner.

Station Commander Marc Le Cornu said: "Autumn Shadow's jumping abilities are not quite what they used to be and unfortunately she didn't fully make the gate.

"Our crews once again showed compassion and ingenuity in completing the successful release of a slightly stressed but otherwise unharmed Autumn Shadow."

Firefighters helped to secure the field to prevent any other horses from also making a run for it.
