Gourmet Burger Kitchen closing down in Guernsey and Jersey

A Channel Island franchise operator said it would be closing a restaurant chain 18 months after opening it.

Sandpiper CI opened Gourmet Burger Kitchen outlets in Jersey and Guernsey in February 2011 but will be closing them on 6 April.

The company said disappointing results meant investment money could be better used elsewhere.

It said it hoped to redeploy the 15 staff to other areas of the business but could not guarantee the jobs.

A spokesperson said there was already interest in the restaurant site at Halkett Street in Jersey.

Sandipiper CI own Channel Island franchises for a number of retail and hospitality businesses including Marks & Spencer, Iceland, Costa Coffee and Hotel Chocolat.

It is only Gourmet Burger Kitchen outlets in Jersey and Guernsey closing.
