Jersey hospital doctor investigated by GMC

A doctor at Jersey's General Hospital is being investigated by the General Medical Council (GMC), it has emerged.

The GMC confirmed Dr Carl Clinton was under investigation. It said he was continuing to work at the hospital but was subject to restrictions.

They include not being allowed to undertake physical examinations of female patients without supervision.

A spokeswoman for Jersey's health department said an internal investigation had cleared him.

The spokeswoman would not specify the nature of the inquiry.

She said the restrictions were normal practice.

A GMC spokesman said: "As an investigation into the doctor's fitness to practise is still ongoing and we have a duty of confidentiality to all parties involved, we are not able to comment on the nature of the investigation."
