Man appears in court after St Helier stabbing

A 33-year-old man detained after a stabbing in St Helier has appeared in court accused of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

Michael Calvert, of Liverpool, appeared before Jersey Magistrates' Court, also charged with malicious damage to a telephone at police headquarters.

A man, in his late 20s, was stabbed in Bond Street on Wednesday. He was later allowed home after hospital treatment.

Mr Calvert was remanded in custody and is due in court again on 4 May.

Four other men arrested over the incident have been released from police custody pending further inquiries.
