A fire that destroyed an abandoned house in St Clement was started deliberately, according to Jersey's fire service.

The blaze in July caused part of the building and its roof to collapse.

The police said no-one has been charged over the fire to the St Clement Coast Road building.

Fire Investigation Officer, Jason Masterman, said it was deliberate and evidence over how it started was with the police.

He said the evidence would remain confidential throughout the police investigation.

Mr Masterman said: "Through the process of elimination we eliminated accidental causes such as cigarettes, candles and anything that could have ignited from in there.

"After we have done all that and have eliminated all of those, based on the evidence in front of us and what we have gleamed, we are left with a deliberate cause for this fire."
