John Pinel is new boss of Jersey's Third Sector Forum

The former chief executive of Jersey Post has been appointed to run the island's Third Sector Forum.

John Pinel is the new chief executive of the group created to provide support to Jersey's charities, not-for-profit organisations and community groups.

He will identify which groups are in the third sector and then help build good working relationships between them and the States.

Jersey's Health Minister Deputy Anne Pryke said it was a welcome move.

Jersey's health department plans to change the way healthcare is delivered in Jersey, with more patients receiving treatment at home from voluntary groups such as Family Nursing and Home Care instead of going to hospital.

Mr Pinel said: "The island enjoys a vibrant, active third sector which is well placed to promote, develop and support the community.

"Third sector organisations are uniquely placed to reach into our island community, to create change and provide services that fall outside the remit of the States."

Mr Pinel worked at Jersey Post for 14 years and has been acting commander and commander of St John Ambulance Jersey for eight years.
