Hurricane Sandy letter sent to New Jersey by Bailiff

The Jersey government has offered its sympathy to people in New Jersey affected by Hurricane Sandy.

A letter from the island's Bailiff to Chris Christie, the governor of the US state, said Jersey residents had been shocked by images of the storm.

Sir Michael Birt spoke of the "historic links" between the two places.

Hurricane Sandy struck the Eastern Seaboard of the United States earlier in the week, leading to a number of deaths and widespread destruction.

The Bailiff said he hoped the state would have "an early recovery and return to normal life".

He said ties between Jersey and New Jersey would reach their 350th anniversary in 2014.
