Jersey business shuts after salmonella bug

The business believed to be responsible for an outbreak of salmonella in Jersey has voluntarily closed down, according to the Health Department.

The company has not been named but has agreed not to resume trading until an agreement has been reached with the department.

About 60 people contacted the Health Department with symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea and fever.

The department has not confirmed if it will take legal action.

The food poisoning can last up to seven days and can be very serious for young people, the elderly and people with a poor immune system.

A spokesman for the department said the infections were likely to have come from two separate outdoor events catered by the company.
