Jersey Sand Street parking trial success measured

An automated parking payment system could replace scratchcards at car parks in Jersey.

A 12-month trial of a number plate scanner at Sand Street car park is due to finish in November.

Transport and Technical Services staff will be surveying motorists about the system before any decisions are made.

Deputy Kevin Lewis, minister, said: "I need to decide now on the merits of the system, so that we have something in place for when the trial ends."

A department spokesman said if it was judged a success the electronic payment system could be rolled out to the other car parks in St Helier, but scratchcards would still be used for on-street parking.

He said anyone wanting to contribute could do so via the States website.
