Jersey Crabbe centre reopens after £930k revamp

An outdoor activity centre in Jersey has reopened after a revamp costing almost £930,000.

The Crabbe centre in St Mary was closed in 2013 after officials said it was not fit for purpose.

The work, funded by the States, included replacing cabins with a new chalet-style building and providing better disabled access.

School children and youth groups have used the centre for day and residential trips for more than 30 years.

Mark Capern from Jersey's Youth Service said: "The old cabins had come to the end of their lives and to comply to health and safety, modern standards and disability standards, we've built a whole new building."

The grounds have also been landscaped with recycled turf used from the Springfield Stadium - the island's biggest sports ground.
