A truck carrying people from a birthday party skidded off a mountain road and plunged into a gorge in northern India, killing 38 people, police say.
Nearly 40 others were injured in the crash in the Himalayan foothills of Himachal Pradesh, 400km (250 miles) from Delhi.
Villagers helped rescue the injured and take them to hospital after the accident in Mandi district, say police.
Road accidents are common in India and claim hundreds of lives every year.
Most are blamed on reckless driving, old vehicles and poor roads.
"They were returning from a birthday party when the driver apparently lost control," local police inspector Bahadur Singh told news agency AFP.
Doctors say that the condition of at least eight passengers was critical after Tuesday night's tragedy.
