'Pakistani boy car-bomber foiled'

A teenage suspected suicide bomber has died after police opened fire on an explosives-laden jeep he was driving in north-west Pakistan, say police.

Officers waved to the boy to pull over as he drove towards a checkpoint in the Janikhel area of Lakki Marwat district, but he changed direction and sped off.

Police said they shot at the Toyota Surf jeep and it blew up, killing the driver, who was about 13-15 years old.

The blast injured three passers-by.

Three houses and a shop were also damaged in Monday's explosion.

A police official told BBC Urdu that the boy had been driving his vehicle to Lakki city, 30km (19 miles) away, when he was challenged at the checkpoint.

A suicide bomb attack on a police station in Lakki in September killed 15 people, including seven policemen.
