A crash between a bus and a van in northern India on Saturday has left at least 34 people dead and 14 injured, officials say.

The incident took place near the town of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh state.

Officials said the driver of the van, which was carrying mourners back from a funeral, lost control and hit the bus.

Bus crashes are common in India. Often caused by poorly maintained vehicles and reckless driving, they claim thousands of lives every year.
