Huge bridge planned in Bangladesh

The World Bank has agreed to give a $1.2bn dollar credit to Bangladesh to build a 6km-long bridge across the Padma river.

It will help connect Bangladesh's principal sea ports and link to the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.

The World Bank says 30 million people in the region will directly benefit from the new road and rail connection.

At present all traffic across the Padma has to rely on ferries, which are infrequent and often unsafe.
