Baby's father says the midwife threatened his wife
Colombo magistrate ordered the police to arrest workers of a maternity ward on charges of negligence.

The magistrate issued the order to Borella police following an inquest into the death of a one – day old infant.

Osman Mohideen, father of the infant has complaint to the police saying he believed the staffs at ward 16 of de Soysa Maternity Hospital were responsible for his child’s death.

According to his complaint, the midwife in charge of the ward refused to call a doctor, when his wife was in labour.

Mohideen said the midwife threatened his wife to deliver the baby immediately.

The magistrate ordered the police to question the staff at the hospital.

An order was also issued to arrest and produce the suspects before the courts after obtaining advice from the Attorney General.
