Guernsey's young athletes have been praised for their showing at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

The island sent a team of eight competitors to the Isle of Man, with swimmers Josh Lewis and Kristina Neves making four finals each.

"I'm incredibly proud of all eight competitors," the secretary general of Guernsey's Commonwealth Games Association, Angela Stuart said.

"They did Guernsey proud," she added to BBC Guernsey.

And the team, many of whom competed at this summer's Island Games, found the competition a lot stiffer against some of the world's best.

"We were very close to the medals but everybody knows when they come here how much more they need to step up if they are to achieve medal success," Stuart said.

"It's a huge step up from the Island Games. Some of them were medallists at an Island Games but they have been challenged here at a Commonwealth Games," she added.
