TRANSFER GOSSIP

Frank Lampard has been told that his Chelsea career is over and that he can find a new team in the January transfer window. The 34-year-old midfielder was informed of the news before scoring in Sunday's 8-0 win over Aston Villa - his 500th Premier League start.

Chelsea are ready to beat Arsenal and Liverpool to sign Barcelona striker David Villa. The Blues' interim boss Rafa Benitez is planning a £12m deal for the 31-year-old who cost the Spanish giants £33m in 2010 but who has made just a handful of first-team starts in the current campaign after suffering a broken leg last season.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp is set to make the first move to sign Newcastle striker Demba Ba when the transfer window reopens. Club chairman Tony Fernandes is so keen to sign the 27-year-old Senegal striker that he is prepared to build a clause into any deal to allow Ba to leave for a minimal fee if he joins the Loftus Road club and they are subsequently relegated.

Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland, 19, is set to leave the club in January after their latest takeover talks stalled. The £6m-rated England international, who has caught the eye of Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City and Southampton, may be sold to keep the Blues from going into administration.

    I cant stand Terry and for me you reap what you sow, but Lampard for me has been one of the most oustanding premier league players of the last decade and should be treated with a little more respect than he is being afforded here, Roman has got this very wrong, but lets face it, its not his first and wont be his last mistake as he bids to make Chelsea the most hated club in the world.

    Abramovich pushing a point where his lack of knowledge will start to be damaging. Lampard, Terrry and Cole are all players worthy of two year contracts. You can buy raw talent but club loyalty and experience is something that is not free but evidently beyond the Russian chavs understanding. He should take a long look at Arsenal to see what losing all your experience does.

    Can't understand why Chelsea would want to let Lampard go at this stage of the season. Can see him and Joe Cole heading back to West Ham though if their cheque book is big enough.

    I'd rather Liverpool signed sturridge and ince, then sold Carroll and used the funds to add depth into the squad. We need to buy more before we can ship anyone out

    @21 I understand what you're saying but we haven't really got a ready made replacement for lampard in terms off what he offers on and off the pitch. I think the stats and the percentage of wins with lampard in the team proves he is still a very important member of the Chelsea team. I personally would love for jt, lampsy and ash to end their careers at Chelsea .

    what went wrong with Arsenal is they lacked a uk spine to the team, but they've got it back, however Chelsea are making the same mistake Lampard Terry Cole and Sturridge going!!??! Look how man u keep the heritage giggs scholes etc. Lampard to Arsenal or afc wimbledon!!

    The cycle of footballers peaking and fading goes on.
    It amazes me that people still have a hard time letting go of players, can you remember which players were replaced by Terry and Lampard?

    Same with Gerrard. Getting to age 32, as a professional athlete, it's not like they're going to get any better, and that's the key. The great performances get further and further apart.

    Frank Lampard is still one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premiership. So it's Chelsea's loss - who will gain? As a West Ham fan I'd love to see him come back, but I think there are too many issues with a lot of the fans................

    People just have to face the fact Lampard is not good enough for an elite club anymore, I'm a Utd fan and it pains me to see Giggs and Scholes taking the field instead of the new breed. Legends for their clubs, but expecting to play (Lampard mainly), when you are not half as good as you used to be, for a now better team squad wise than when you were at your peak is delusion!

    @29 yeah I suppose u can only hope that whoever comes in will have as big an effect on Chelsea as lampard, I don't think there are many good young English cm bar cleverley and wilshere. I would like us to bring back jack cork, he had potential
