I had to write my dissertation about this back in 2011. 1st they pulled the plug on £111 million which was set aside for the next 6 years of sport partnership funding including P & S schools. Next they spent 150 million on the aquatics centre for the Olympics & created the "Legacy Fund" which only ever had £10mill. The NHS will increase spending on obesity and our sport dominance will slide.
As much as I'd hoped Cameron was different to the previous, nasty party, in power he has shown he is anything but..........and just look at how much more extreme his back benchers are.........the Tories are still every inch the nasty party.....
This government has turned its back on kids full stop. They are been used in a huge right wing experiment which will leave many kids damaged and unemployable.
Before the elections I had 12 staff members along with myself working in 20 primary schools teaching the PE curriculum. After Mr Gove ended SSP's ring fenced £162m I now work in just 4 schools with 1 staff member. The only reason why I work in those schools is because the class teachers have no confidence or experience to teach PE and it suits their PPA cover to sub-contract the work out to me.
I agree with 'anotherfakename' leisure centres, libraries, swimming pools, children's services should be built on educational sites (secondary, college, university) It's a well known fact that these facilities alone are being under used so why not build these services and open them up to the public this will create a community hub. It will be cheaper to run and will never be under used.
We have to tap all the talent in the country - sports and the arts - to be the best. Relying on only the priviledged 10% is not OK...Gove must go!
As far as I can see school sports are alive and well!!!!http://www.etoncollege.com/Rowing.aspxGiven that we are all "in it together" we must learn to pull, pull together!!Splendid!
Anything coming from Gove is bound to be out of touch and irrelevant! This man has no idea.
It is not just schools that are losing funding for sport, from the end of this financial year ( March ), Birmingham council are closing the community leisure centres. I attend a club which run children's and adult classes, but we have been told we are being turfed out because the centre is closing. The instructors teach on a voluntary basis, effort down the drain. So much for encouraging sport...
The British public saw this coming, it was so obvious...........just look at the receptions that the boy Gideon, our work experience Chancellor, and ex-PM Gordon Brown got respectively when they awarded medals to atheletes at the Olympics.........tells you all you need to know.......
What do people expect. We must put troops in Africa now because seemingly the number of people that die in terrorist attacks in the UK is far greater than the number of people that die from preventable diseaseFact is that the number of preventable health related deaths in the UK is equivalent to a nuclear bomb being dropped on one of our major cities every 10 yearsHow is that for perspective
Just hope the new strategy will inspire everyone as getting bored of looking backwards at what used to be in place and look forward to inspiring the next generation
