@372The UCI covered up Armstrong's failed test and more besides. There was no Jiffy bag. You're just repeating what you've read.
It was great while it lasted, can they find a sponsor to match Sky financial input? Even with recent bad press Sky deserve credit for what they have done for cycling. 'Team Sky team will continue under a new sponsor', that's rubbish. If I sponsor them it carries my name not Sky.I feel for Thomas, against the odds he delivered and signed a 3 year contract that could now fall apart.
At which point theyll revert back to being called Team
Will be good to see them go , if they didn’t cheat they bent the rules way beyond what I think is right. Not clean enough.
I think history tells us that big sponsors have a finite life in cycling, in this case having swept all before them there is little to be gained commercially carrying on.The smell of a dope scandal probably put the lid on it as no company in these PC times wants that baggage, see Lance Armstrong, and their two biggest winners are no longer long term prospects.
369. Posted by gaks...357. Posted by TC - "They should get Dyson to sponsor them"with their history if manipulating test results I reckon it's a perfect fit...If only JD was prepared to invest in the UK - I bet there is a Singapore team out there in that will get the same results with a lot less tax paid...
In other cycling news....The McLaren Group says the aim is "to be the best in professional cycling" after signing a deal to become a 50% partner in the Bahrain Merida team.
I wonder what impact this will have on Dave Brailsford. At Sky there has been a seemingly- endless supply of money to finance innovation. If the new sponsorship deal is less (and that could be very likely), will he continue? I would be interested in others' opinions on this area.
@365To be fair, judging from the number of strange, incoherent and frankly plain wrong comments on this story, I think cycling is still a minority sport from a public awareness perspective.
@366"...BUT they have never been proved to have done anything wrong unlike real proven cheats such as Armstrong"Armstrong was never proven. He got busted when Landis confessed. Let's face it, unaccounted jiffy bag, Triamcinolone injections (I thought Team Sky had strict no needle policy?!). Evidence conveniently in "stolen laptop", doctor retiring soon after. No, nothing dodgy going on.
Good news! I said after the Thomas victory in July the grand tours were becoming like the Premiership and F1 and starting to become a bit predictable...anything connected with SKY in sports is bad news in my opinion.
