Great Britain's top-ranked 400m runner Michael Bingham has failed to qualify for the final at the UK Trials & Championships in Birmingham.

The European 400m silver medallist finished third in his heat so awaits a decision on his selection for next month's World Championships.

European 400m hurdles champion Dai Greene and Martyn Rooney were among the runners to qualify.

But Commonwealth Games medallist Conrad Williams also missed out on the final.

Williams' time of 46.10 was only good enough for second place in his heat behind Richard Strachan.

Meanwhile, reigning world hepthalon champion Jessica Ennis equalled her personal best in the shot put with a throw of 14.25m.

The Sheffield athlete also won her 100m hurdles heat in 13.01 and will go head-to-head with Tiffany Offili-Porter in the final.

The 25-year-old said: "Tiffany is running really great this year and it's going to be a good head-to-head. Hopefully she will push me to a PB."

Ennis will be competing in five events over the weekend as she prepares for the defence of her title in Daegu.
