Newly crowned national 1500-metre champion James Shane has said he is hoping to be selected for the World Athletics Championships.
Basildon runner Shane, 21, ran a personal best at the UK trials in Birmingham on Sunday.
He told BBC Essex he is still coming to terms with his win. "I was racing against the sort of people I've seen on TV for years.
"I was hoping I'd be near the front but I didn't think I would run how I did."
Shane will learn later this month if he has done enough to earn a place at the World Athletics Championships in South Korea, which start at the end of the month.
It has been a busy two months for the Essex athlete, who won silver at the European Under-23 Championships last month.
He also represented Great Britain for the first time at the European Team Championships in June.
He added: "My coach has had a plan for the past six years to get me to the Olympics.
"It's all going well so far. It will be a dream come true so fingers crossed."
