Ciara Mageean missed out on achieving the Olympic Games 1500m qualifying standard after finishing eighth at a meeting in Morocco on Sunday evening.
The 20-year-old Portaferry athlete clocked 4 minutes and 13 seconds as she raced in a high-class field at the Mohammed meeting in Rabat.
Despite suggestions that it would be a fast race, it was won in a relatively pedestrian 4:07.
Mageean has a best of 4:07.45 and is chasing the London mark of 4:06.00.
Running in the same meeting, Ireland's European Cross Country champion Fionnuala Britton achieved the Olympic 5000m standard.
Britton clocked 15:15.69 as she finished sixth and her time was comfortably inside the London standard of 15:20.00 and cut almost 13 seconds off her previous best for the distance.
The Wicklow athlete has now qualified for three events in London.
She achieved the 3,000m steeplechase mark last year and bettered the 10,000m standard in the US last month.
