Donegal athlete Mark English won the silver medal in Sunday's 800m final at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Prague.

English finished behind winner Marcin Lewandowski from Poland to secure Ireland's only medal of the meeting.

The 21-year-old, a European bronze medallist outdoors last summer, chased down Thijmen Kupers and dipped to cross the line in one minute 47.20 seconds.

English, from Letterkenny, edged out the Dutchman by 0.05secs.

Meanwhile, John Travers finished seventh in the 1500m final, running 3:41.50.

Ireland's men's 4x400m relay team finished sixth in a highly competitive final won by Belgium in a European record time of 3:02.87.
