British high jumper Christopher Baker set a personal best in finishing second at the Hustopece Indoor Championships in the Czech Republic.

The 25-year-old eclipsed his previous best of 2.28m with an impressive 2.36m, just 2cm short of Steve Smith's British indoor record.

Dalton Grant, who recorded 2.37m indoors in 1994, is the only other Briton to jump higher than Baker.

Gianmarco Tamberi broke the Italian national record to win with 2.38m.

Meanwhile, rising British star Zharnel Hughes claimed a personal best in the 400m with a time of 46.95 seconds at the Camperdown Classic in Kingston.

Hughes was fourth, with Jamaican Javon Francis winning the meet in 46.21 seconds.

Olympic silver medallist Yohan Blake opened his 2016 season at the same event, clocking the seventh-fastest time with 48.14 seconds.
