Ciara Mageean focusing on Rio qualification as she skips Beijing

Ciara Mageean says she will chase the Rio Olympics 1500m qualifying standard in the remaining weeks of this season even though she has opted not to compete at the World Championships later this month.

Mageean continued her comeback after injury as she impressively won the 800m title at the Irish Championships in Dublin on Sunday.

"For me, Rio has been my main goal since not getting selected for London 2012," Mageean told BBC Northern Ireland after her victory at Santry.

Mageean has asked not to be considered for the World Championships in Beijing as she continues her "slow" build-up towards the Rio Games.
