Olympic boxing hopeful assaulted
Irish Olympic boxing hopeful Tommy McCarthy is taken to hospital after being assaulted during a night out in his native Belfast.
McCarthy spent two days in hospital and then seven days of bed-rest at home after being concussed and suffering a cracked bone in his neck in the assault.
The Belfast heavyweight will compete in April's final Olympic qualifying event in Turkey after winning the Irish title and remains confident that he can secure a place in London despite the setback.
McCarthy will have to be at his best because only one heavyweight spot for London is up for grabs in Turkey.
