How boxing helped Afghan refugee Ajmal Faizy find salvation

Darwen-based super-lightweight fighter Ajmal Faizy has come a long way since arriving at Manchester Airport from his native Afghanistan without a word of English.

The 21-year-old, who sought refuge in the UK after his father was killed by the Taliban, left behind his mother and sister for a new life in England.

Faizy has settled into British life, in large part thanks to trainer Barry Higginson. He is now a hot prospect in his weight division and tells BBC North West Tonight how boxing has helped to give him a purpose.

His latest fight, which takes place on World Refugee Day against Lubos Priehradnik, will be dedicated to his adopted home - the country that took him in aged 13.
