Irish heavyweight Darren O'Neill is left furious after missing out on Olympic qualification in Turkey following a controversial defeat but insists he will battle on in the hope of achieving a Rio spot.
O'Neill was convinced he had defeated top seed Abdulkadir Abdullayev in the quarter-final of the bout in the qualifiers in Samsun but the Azerbaijan fighter was given a split-decision verdict.
"He's a top guy but we thought we won. We felt we had the cleaner punches. All he was doing was wrestling," said the 30-year-old Kilkenny man, who will have a last chance to qualify at a tournament in Azerbaijan in June.
