Boardman wants 'draconian' bans

Chris Boardman believes lifetime bans should be handed out to all drug cheats, advocating "draconian deterrents" to stop drugs getting into the sport.

Team GB cyclist David Millar and sprinter Dwain Chambers are currently banned from competing at London 2012 because of a British Olympic Association (BOA) by-law which prevents drug cheats from participating, with their Olympic fate resting on the outcome of a BOA appeal against the World Anti-Doping Agency's (Wada) ruling that its by-law is not compliant with the Wada code and therefore unenforceable.

Boardman, who won an individual pursuit gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, also believes 2012 will be Bradley Wiggins' "best ever shot" at winning the Tour de France and can see his fellow Olympic gold medallist finishing in at least the "top three".
