Profile: Dave Brailsford, British Cycling's performance director

British cycling is enjoying unprecedented success and Team GB cyclists are now household names around the world - and it is the team's performance director Dave Brailsford who has been widely credited with masterminding their world-beating performances.

His winning methods include combining an encyclopaedic knowledge of cycling with an obsessive work ethic, relentlessly crunching numbers and other data in a constant quest for a competitive advantage, however small.

But he is not just a numbers man. Ruth Alexander talks to those who know Brailsford, and finds out what motivates the quiet cycling supremo.

This programme was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Saturday, 11 August 2012. You can also listen via the Profile download.
