Shaw and Boylan take Omagh road race honours

Irish amateur Damien Shaw and Commonwealth Games cyclist Lydia Boylan secure wins at the Irish National Road Race Championships at Omagh.

Boylan, who represented Northern Ireland on the track at last year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, hopes to be part of the Irish team pursuit squad at the Rio Olympics next summer,

Riding for Team WNT, Boylan held off the challenge of Lydia Gurley and Olivia Dillon and three others in a six-up sprint to the line, beating a number of past champions to take gold.

Shaw finished one minute and two seconds ahead of first-year senior Eddie Dunbar

The men's field included defending champion Ryan Mullen, multiple past winner Matt Brammeier (MTN Qhubeka) and Sky's Philip Deignan. They and many others missed the first-lap breakaway and never got back on terms.
