Ipswich's Luke Chambers tells BBC Radio Suffolk he is happy to partner either Damien Delaney or Tommy Smith in central defence this season.
Chambers joined Town from Nottingham Forest last month and is keen to contribute a goal or two but says stopping opposition teams is his main concern.
He is also hoping that Paul Jewell's search for new players will result in the signing of another central defender to create more competition for places.
"I had that situation at Forest last year where we only had three centre-halves and at one stage I was playing centre-half with a centre midfielder. If another centre-half comes in, great, it keeps everyone at their peak," he adds.
