Roberto Mancini responds to Man City tactics criticism

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini defends criticism of his tactics during Manchester City's 3-1 Champions League defeat by Ajax, saying "top players" can play in different systems.

The Italian switched to a three-man defence, wanting more "offensive" players, but his side slipped to a 3-1 defeat and defender Micah Richards voiced concern about the formation.

The defeat leaves the Premier League champions bottom of Group D with one point from three matches, raising the prospect that they will again fail to reach the knockout stages.

City face Swansea at home in the Premier League on Saturday and currently stand third in the table, four points behind leaders Chelsea.
