Hereford United's Great Escape: The day the Bulls beat the drop

BBC Hereford & Worcester sports editor Trevor Owens chronicles the events of a dramatic Conference Premier afternoon as Hereford United escaped relegation.

With two minutes left at the Recreation Ground, Aldershot, Hereford were being held 1-1, while rivals Chester were winning 2-1 against Salisbury at Bumpers Lane.

If either of those two scorelines stayed the same, Hereford, still facing a desperate financial fight to survive off the field, would be relegated to the Conference North.

But Michael Rankine then put Hereford back in front as, almost simultaneously, Chester shipped an equaliser - and it was they who went down instead.
