Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett stresses how important it was to keep Demarai Gray and not be seen as a selling club following strong interest in the teenage winger.
Prior to the January transfer window closing on Monday, Blues' Championship rivals Bournemouth made a £5m bid in an attempt to lure 18-year-old Gray to Dorset.
But Blues, despite their financial problems, held firm.
"It's great they've backed my view that we don't want to be a team who just sell whenever we create a very good footballer," Rowett told BBC WM.
"I'm sure it took a lot of willpower to turn down what was a very good offer, but it shows progression from our behalf as a club."
Blues boss Gary Rowett was talking to BBC WM's Nicky Lloyd.
