Jonny Evans didn't mean to spit, says Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans did not intend to spit at Newcastle's Papiss Cisse in the incident that brought both players a Football Association charge, manager Louis van Gaal says.

The Dutchman says the Northern Irish defender was "not aware" and that it was "natural".

Both players could face a six-game ban if found guilty. They have until 18:00 GMT on Friday to respond to the charge.
